Curious why Swedes goes a little wild in June? ☀️ It’s Midsummer – Midsummer has ancient roots, originally a celebration of light, fertility and nature. People believed the sun had magical powers around the summer solstice and Swedes marked the longest day of the year with flowers, dancing and hopes for a good harvest 🌾 So what did they do? 🌿 Danced around maypoles 🌸 Picked 7 flowers to dream of their future love 🔥 Lit bonfires 💧 Bathed in the morning dew for beauty and health Today we still do (most of) these things – minus the bonfires, add pickled herring and questionable frog dancing 🐸 So if you’re wearing a flower crown and eating raw fish while hopping in a circle – congratulations!
