The Bernadotte Stairs and the Maritime Goddess: At the beginning of the walk at Helsingörskajen and west of Hamntorget is the Bernadotte Stairs. The staircase was inaugurated in 2001 by Count Carl Johan Bernadotte, great-grandson of Jean Baptiste Bernadotte (later Charles XIV Johan), who landed nearby on October 20, 1810. Just behind you is the city’s new hotel and congress center Sea U.
The goddess of navigation is right next to the stairs. Director Malte Sommelius announced on his seventieth birthday on April 29, 1921 that he wanted to donate a monument to Helsingborg located on Hamntorget. The monument would symbolize the city as a shipping and port city. The sculpture arrived in Helsingborg in 1923 and the 19 meter high monument was inaugurated the same year.
